What is it like to be an Installation Technician at Lumon?
I'm Ryan, and I’ve been part of the Lumon team since November 11th 2021. Here, you can see my thoughts on some questions about being an Installation Technician at Lumon, and what it is like starting out. Hopefully it helps you to understand who we are as a company, what to prepare for, and inspires you to join our team.
Q | What would have been helpful to know before beginning as an Installer at Lumon?
A | I think the biggest thing would have been a larger understanding of our product, some things are easy to learn while on the job, but more of an understanding of how our product could be installed anywhere from 10 floors up to a roof on ground level.
Q | What can you expect a 'day in the life' to look like?
A | Once arrived at 7:00am, our jobs have been preloaded by the Warehouse and Fleet Support team, who preload all skids and bundles on trailers for us. Then, after our job is confirmed, we confirm stock in our vans for fasteners and any other supplies. If we are running low, we inform our supervisor/leads and they are able to obtain more stock from Warehouse and fleet support team.
Q | What is the most rewarding part of your work?
A | The most rewarding part is seeing the customers happy and excited for our product on their house to be completed, even more so when there has been road blocks delaying projects and making customers know and understand that we are near and will do anything to maintain the support to being the most desired product!
Q | How have you seen our employee value proposition 'the best is achieved by learning together' be a part of your work?
A | I find us as a team that if we hit roadblocks, everyone helps out or gives a way to come up with a solution. This allows us to learn from mistakes we've had before and keeps us learning forward all in a team.
In my short time with Lumon, I've taken on the challenges of owning our warehouses and fleet, making things run smoother from a logistics side on the installation and service team and being able to allow our fleet run to it's best performance. This has included implementing procedures for our warehouses, finding reliable mechanics, keeping our safety and security of our product until it's established for installation as well as making sure that stock is maintained for complete accuracy. In addition, I have worked in making every event traceable providing points of data that can be analyzed as required for the event were to ever arise and making data accessible for our business unit leaders to trace as well. From all of this experience in addition to my installation experience, I have slowly progressed into the role of Warehouse and Fleet support, and look forward to where my career path will be brought next.
